We start off our countdown to the opening of LG Fashion Week in October with an introduction to the menswear designers that are presenting at this year’s week-long fashion extravaganza. Each and everyone of these menswear designers represent our city (and country) in the fashion world, and not to mention, they all educate the world on the definition of Toronto chic. We feel that it is imperative for all male Torontonians to be well versed on these home grown talents as their creativity is reflective of our city as a whole. So, get yourself familiarized with these home grown menswear designers as they are set to show the world of fashion what Toronto is all about in October.
In our inaugural post, we delve into the world that is Bustle Clothing…
Bustle Clothing, founded in 2002 by Shawn Hewson (designer judge on Project Runway Canada) and Ruth Promislow, both Bay street lawyers, is a leading Canadian sportswear label that has become well known for its cheeky and well-tailored leisure aesthetic. Adored world wide as the premier Canadian menswear label, each season Bustle produces a collection based around a new ‘sportif’ theme. From the Skeet Club to the Kentucky Derby, to the Spring 2009 vintage jet-set inspired “Wayfarer” Collection, high pedigree inspiration always translates into luxurious but funked-up classics, mixed in with Bustle’s sharp tailoring, attention to details, and signature cheekiness. Bustle has been described as the sheer definition of classic menswear with a healthy dose of tongue in chic.
“We’re getting found more and that really is a result of showing here at fashion week. The exposure we get here [Toronto Fashion Week] is incredible.” Shawn Hewson as quoted to The Star
In addition to presenting collections at Toronto Fashion Week each season, Bustle has also been involved in a number of varied design partnerships, including designing for such brands as Audi, Vespa, Ford of Canada, Hotel Le Germain, the Pantages Suites and Cosmopolitan Hotel, The City of Las Vegas, the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, Source UK Carpets, and Freed Developments – “Fashion House”.
Bustle’s designers have appeared as style experts on numerous Canadian and international television productions, and Creative Director Shawn Hewson sits as the full-time designer judge on the television series Project Runway Canada, hosted by international supermodel and style icon, Iman. Bustle’s roster of celebrity clients includes Samuel L. Jackson, Andy Summers (the Police), Jesse Metcalfe, J.D. Fortune (INXS), Jake Gold, Andrew Stetson, Dan Levy, Tara Spencer-Nairn, Stacy McKenzie and Nicole Richie.
Bustle Clothing’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection will be presented on October 20 2009 at 9pm during LG Fashion Week.
