screw faced.

So we were at the Manifesto Festival Sunday night to take in some home grown talent, but what we witnessed and heard from the crowd at Manifesto was on some ignorant bullshit.  How the hell does our city expect to be up there with the likes of other cities when our people screw their faces and ball out, “where’s the next act?!?” at our own artists?  I mean, I shouldn’t really be surprised.  To think that our city might have finally shed the “screw faced capitol of the world” title…bullshit.  Not even close when we still have dumb haters hating.  Some even went as far as saying that they were proud of that title…what?  Proud of what?  The fact that you’re hating on someone actually talented and trying to better our city?  And you’re proud of that?  That’s pathetic,  to say the least.  Now, don’t get me wrong, if the artist is wack and has no talent whatsoever, I’d be the first person screwing my face.  But tonight, we had Solitair, Tona, Saukrates and Colin Munroe performing in front of their home crowd and performing their asses off, but people were standing there, eyes rolling and not even paying no mind to any of them.  It was especially worse for Colin Munroe as people around us were booing the poor dude.  Like, are you fucking serious?!?!  Real talk, and no disrespect to Drake (because I’ve been a big Drizzy stan since day 1…as in circa Room For Improvement days), but if he came on stage, trust…people in Oakville would’ve heard the crowd.  The funny part though: the fools that hated tonight, are the same people that screwed their faces when Drake first came onto the scene and all of a sudden, because he’s now huge in the US, call him their idol.  See, that’s the problem with these leeches, they only see fame and dollars.

Even if you didn’t like these home grown talents, at least respect them for coming from your own backyard and trying to make it.  Because at the end of the day, they’re all putting Toronto on the map.  And for all you aspiring artists that hated tonight, y’all are dumb as shit.  Did you ever realize that by screwing your face, kissing your teeth and hating on other Toronto artists, you just fucked up your chances of becoming big?  Like, really.  They are all paving (or have paved) the way for you newer artists.  So if it weren’t for Kardie, Drake, Saukrates, BrassMunk, Colin Munroe, Choclair, Michie Mee and all of the other Toronto artists, you or anyone else coming from Toronto for that matter, wouldn’t even have a place to go to get your music out.  Know your history, know your city.  Because if we can’t even support our own artists, what makes you think it’ll be any different for you?

So before you screw your face and hate on one of our own, think about this: what are you doing that’s putting Toronto on the map?!?  Nothing, right?  Figured as much.

  1. I try not to get frustrated at it but when I see it, it stills bugs the shit outta’ me. If they went to a sculpture exhibition and some dude randomly started breaking out in song and dance, I could understand people standing around, arms folded, frown pon dem face.
But when you go to a MUSIC and ARTS festival and you stand there looking like someone just pissed in your cornflakes when you watching MUSIC and ART being performed, the only one that looks like an idiot is you. That’s because a Freshly Educated Man like me is looking at you thinking, “This fool came to this jam but knows absolutely NOTHING about good music”.
It’s the equivalent of going to church and screwing your face up because you think all the kneeling, praying and singing is bullshit. If you didn’t want to do that shit WHY IN THE HELL DID YOU GO TO CHURCH? Likewise, if you don’t want to clap, dance, nod ya’ head and participate in some call and response shit, WHY DID YOU GO TO A MUSIC SHOW?
We should take all these asses and send them to Yellowknife for a year or two. Bet they clap, sing and dance their asses off at every show after they return to T-Dot and realize just how good they initially had it.

  2. I was there last night as well.
People do need to stop hating. Most of the time it’s the people that lack the courage and talent to be on stage that are the most ignorant.
If you claim to have the talent and skills AND your stilling screwing your face like the above mentioned group, your worse in my book. You know what it’s like to try and share your art or creation with other people, yet you still g’wan certain ways. Ah well. I guess you have to be tough in Toronto.
