It has been 8 years since Ransom first launched their collection, and their founding principal of offering a clean and determined look to the consumers is still very much apart of their thought process. It has evolved from an unknown name in Toronto, to now one that is showcased around the world; giving men a truly refined look…without forgetting their Canadian roots. And perhaps that is precisely why Ransom has catapulted to its success. The world nowadays seems to embrace anything that is Canadian, whether it be fashion, government policies or diversity. Whatever the case may be, for Fall/Winter 2009, much like Ralph Lauren this season, Ransom’s team went back to its heritage. The result: a truly exceptional collection that fuses the tradition of superb tailoring with raw innovation.
Ransom, for their Fall/Winter 2009 collection, continues to embrace the workwear aesthetic. Having been inspired by the outdoors man, Ransom offers an outstanding selection of pieces such as herringbone chinos, quilted overshirts, sock beanies, melton wool bombers, duck twill vests, washed selvedge denim, and wool 5 panel caps. But it is the low-slung crotch trousers that shine in the collection. A departure from their usual subtle silhouette and approach to design, it is perhaps a daring (and much congratulated) movement in contemporary menswear.
This season also marks a new venture for Ransom, as they are set to launch one of the most anticipated collaborations this year with adidas. The extensive new collection of all-new footwear models was inspired by heritage brands such as Sorel, Red Wing, and the vintage work wear idea. With a mixture of bold monotone and muted monotones in the footwear, the pairing of the ready-to-wear and footwear was made to be. Boots and casual shoes make up the footwear collection, inspired by classics and sneakers, yet more grown and with the uniquely Canadiana trait.
And to round off their Fall/Winter 2009 collection, Ransom commissioned Greg Washington to shoot their look book. Entitled, “Midnight Marauder”, the overall look evokes the quintessential modern outdoors man. One who is rugged, yet polished.
