As you may have heard McDonalds recently opened up their first stand alone McCafe store at Union station in Toronto followed by their second location at First Canadian Place. Based on their press release it is claimed that with the opening of these two stand alone McCafe locations the brand is trying hard to build on its reputation as a leading coffee brand which showcases the company’s passion for elevating the café experience for its guests in ways that are both convenient and relevant.
“We’re putting the café in McCafé and making the brand a destination in its own right,” said John Betts, President and CEO of McDonald’s Canada. “The new standalone McCafé locations allow us to build on our strong coffee credentials and create even stronger connections with our brand by offering our guests the more complete café menu they’ve been asking us for.”
So, what’s the big deal? Nothing except for the fact that the McCafe store actually delivers on this mission. The new McCafe store aside from looking incredibly elevated and nothing like it’s fast food, burger serving counter part is quite literally my new addiction. With a brand new menu featuring everything from brie, apple, honey croissants, grilled chipotle sandwiches, full assortment of salads, coffees, lattes and juices the new face of McDonalds is quite frankly delicious.
Aside from their extremely well developed menu the locations also feature some awesome technology like their self-ordering kiosks, mobile device charging stations, and free Wi-Fi. Needless to say the latter is extremely important for people like me who’s roaming charges and battery life is always an issue. Having said that, the touch screen self-serving kiosks were truly the surprise and delight moment for me as they put all the power in the hands of the consumer. What do I mean? Through these kiosks the patrons can order any item off the menu and customize it to high heavens. Simply add an extra shot of expresso there, double chocolate there, dash of caramel, extra whip…you get the idea. Rather than explaining your obsessively complicated order to someone you can just do it yourself. How great is that?!
It’s clear that the team at McDonalds have truly done their due diligence in understanding the needs of their customers and in doing so have created a space that is definitely going to get some heads rolling. One can only hope that this new foray into the market forces the competition to seriously look at their position and encourages them to grow and evolve because we all know what happens to brands that get comfortable. With that said, I hope that you pop by the shop when you have a moment and drop a comment below letting me know what you thought of the space.
