“The concept is based on iconic cultural references that blend the Ransom brand’s Northern heritage and modern sensibilities together with the market leading know-how of adidas Originals. The inspiration stems from the natural wonders of remote areas like the foothills of Montana and the snow-capped Rocky Mountains to the intense energy of the concrete jungles of today’s urban landscape.” Matt George, founder of United Front, quoted in Crooked Tongues
This fall will usher in one of the most interesting (and anticipated) projects of the year between Toronto’s very own, Ransom, and internationally renown German-born, adidas. Having released the Goodfoot adidas ZX 8000 of the aZX Project in 2008 (utilizing all reusable and recyclable materials and dyes), this is not the first collaboration between the two.
Ransom, which is under the umbrella group of United Front (which also includes Goodfoot, Nomad, Stussy Canada chapters…among many), has been in the industry for about 8 years now. Founded on the principal of offering a clean and determined look to the consumers, it has evolved into a brand that caters not only to the conservative man, but also to the hipsters and the male fashionistas alike. Having already conquered the Canadian market, Ransom is now showcased in some of the world’s most exclusive retail concepts, including: Conveyor @ Fred Segal LA, UBIQ in Philadelphia and Patta in Amsterdam.
This extensive new collection of all-new models was inspired by heritage brands such as Sorel, Red Wing, and the vintage work wear idea. With a mixture of bold monotone and muted monotones in the collection, the colour palette represents Ransom’s fall direction. Sticking to its culture of quality: the attention-to-detail and meticulous craftsmanship are seen throughout the collection…down to the last stitching of the models.
“When you have the combination of experience, creativeness and footwear expertise like we did on this project, it would be almost impossible not to make a mark.” Matt George quoted in Crooked Tongues
Models include the Creek, Pier, Dune, Valley, and Summit…making for a great mixture of casual and more rugged styles that work well in the current footwear world. Set to be unleashed Fall 2009, this will no doubt be an impressive venture to witness…as well as the much awaited Past Tell (aka. Pastelle) clothing line from Kanye, that Matt George has a part in.
Already in the works for the Spring 2010 Ransom x adidas collection, the Valley Lo is outfitted in ripstop nylon outer and finished in a great shade of red (black will also be available). The collection is reported to include a variety of clothing and apparel that complements the Valley Lo as well as other models.
