“In a global initiative to promote retail, restore consumer confidence, and celebrate fashion, U.S. and international editions of Vogue are coordinating evening extravaganzas in their respective world fashion capitals.”
Amidst the global recession, Vogue and global retailers are set to roll out their first annual Fashion’s Night Out to celebrate the fashion industry and restore consumer confidence throughout the world. Hudson’s Bay Company is set to be part of this initiative on September 10 2009, joining retailers in 13 countries to bring extended shopping hours, special-in-store events and activities to shoppers.
This bold global initiative is being coordinated in boutiques and department stores around the world by both the US and international editions of Vogue magazine, with Hudson’s Bay Company joining retailers in the US, UK, Greece, Italy, Russia, France, Brazil, India, Spain, China, Germany, Japan and Taiwan to launch this first-ever global shopping event.
“As Canada’s leading fashion department store, we are very excited to be included in this global event along with retailers like Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s and Lord & Taylor, designed to stimulate the retail and fashion industries. It’s time to get Canadian consumers excited about shopping again and we’re the only retailer in Canada participating.” Bonnie Brooks, CEO of The Bay.
Toronto is dubbed the fashion capital of Canada and is the catalyst for many Canadian designers. The fashion industry is one of the city’s largest industrial employers and the sector is booming as we speak. Currently the industry employs nearly 50, 000 people and is home to more than 550 apparel manufacturers with wholesale shipments totaling nearly $1.4 billion annually (16% of the $9 billion Canadian fashion market). And as for our creative innovation, buyers from around the world recognize the importance of Toronto’s creativity. Lida Baday, Brian Bailey and Franco Mirabelli are all carried alongside top international lines at prestigious retailers such as: Bergdorf-Goodman, Nordstroms and Saks Fifth Avenue. With L’Oreal Toronto Fashion Week and The Toronto Fashion Incubator (it has been used as a model for Dublin, New York & St. Petersburg), fashion and its industries are taken very seriously at City Hall and with Torontonians.
Fashion’s Night Out celebrations will be taking place throughout 3 of the Bay’s Toronto flagship stores and will include a variety of in-store events and exclusive vendor activities including workshops, expert consultations, fashion shows, prize raffles, music, food and drink and an opportunity to meet designers and celebrity stylists.
